Compression Moldings

Compression means to compress a material by the use of heat and pressure. Molding means to mold different elements and material into different required shapes. Compression molding together stands the molding of material by the use of compression methods. Compression molding requires preheating of the material in order to get a spongy and soft material, which is then placed, in the molding equipment, which holds the specific shape. Then this material is compressed with the help of pressure and heat into the molding equipment thus giving the required shape. Different materials are molded for instance weak chemical metals which are further used to form different shapes and frames; rubber is molded to form different materials like pen and other rubber materials. Compression molding requires top forces, in order to mold the material. Four important areas needed to cover the process of compression molding are:

1. The material, which is used to mold, should be in specific amount. For instance, if it is not in the required amount then the molding equipment is not filled properly and thus the required molded shape is not produced. Therefore, exact amount of material, for molding, is required for the perfect compression molding service.

2. The time is very important for the process of compression molding. The accurate time, which is needed to apply the force, pressure and heat to the compressed molded material must be determined before time. For instance if extra timing is given to the compression molding process then the material may change its physical state of matter. It may not be as hard as required.

3. The required force or pressure is needed to know in order to mold the material. Extra pressure may again lead to the different state of matter in the material. The extra pressure may also changes the require shape of the material.

4. Temperature of the molded material must decrease with time in a specific range and thus provide cooling effect, which will keep the material in the required shape. This cooling temperature is thus required in the end of the process to make the material more solid and hard. You have ever noticed that different compressed materials brake if an external force or extra heating is provided to these molded materials. This is due to the reason that exact pressure and temperature is needed to keep them in finished form.

Compression Molding Materials

Usually two three types of materials are used to mold and these are:

Plastic Compression Molding: For plastic molding injection compression molding method is used to form thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic materials for its further use. For this purpose, first the plastic is taken in molten form, which is then injected into the mold which is in the opposite shape of the required product. After the product is design by the organization then mold maker or toolmaker which is usually made up of steel or aluminum is used to mold the plastic into the required shape. This is mostly done to provide different plastic part for the organization.

Rubber Compression Molding: similar method is used in order to form different rubber materials. The rubber is taken in molten form and is molded into the required shape.

Metal Compression Molding: the weak metals are molded into the required shape by the use of heat, pressure and force.
