Extruded Plastics

Extrusion is the process in which the material is first melted in molten form then this molten form is molded into different shapes in order to get the require product. Extruded plastic is the molded plastic, which is molded by heating the raw plastic. The heated raw plastic melts and thus this melted form is then injected to different molds to acquire a specific shape.

Process Of The Plastic Extrusion

In the process of plastic extrusion, the raw beads of plastic, which is often white in color, is added in the hopper of the extruder machine. This hopper pushes the bead to the feed throat, which then pushes it to the screw part. The screw is the rotating part of the extruder machine which tries to grind and pushes the beads to the barrel. The barrel is the major part and plays a vital role. It holds heater and heat the plastic in order to make it into molten forms. The thermostats try to maintain the temperature. It also provides fan which try to minimize the temperature if extra heating is provided to the plastic. On the other hand, friction and pressure also increase the temperature. The increase in temperature will damage the whole process and thus it is required to maintain the temperature. This may be done by shutting the heater. The thermostat does this shutting automatically, if the temperature rises. After this the molten plastic passes through screen pack; screen pack is the place where the molten plastic is screen out. If any impurity or bead is left in molten then it is filtered out. Next part is breaker plate that usually tries to break the plastic into long forms. This process ends when the plastic reached to the die part. Die part hold the required shape. The plastic then enters into die and cut down into the desire shape. This is the whole process of plastic extrusion.

Extruded Plastic Shapes

Extruded plastic is shaped with the help of die that is attached to the extruder machine. Different die processes form different plastic shapes and these different shapes are given below.

Extruded Plastic Pipes

Different pipes are extruded according to the purpose of their use. Plastic straws are extruded which are used with different beverages. Similarly long and hard pipes are formed which are used for water supply purpose.

Extruded Plastic Sheets

Long plastic sheets are extruded with the help of extruder. Different sheets according to their thickness are extruded which are further used for different purposes. Very thin plastic sheets are extruded which can bend and rolled easily whereas thick plastic sheets are not rolled and bend.

Extruded Plastic Mesh

Long plastic sheets are extruded which are lattice in shape. These are patterned differently, used in different organizations. These are further cut into different shapes as required by the organization.

Extruded Corrugated Plastic Sheets

These rigid plastic sheets are further used by organizations. These rigid plastic sheets are uneven and organization further molds them into their desire shape. For instance, these extruded corrugated plastic sheets are further used by organization to mold to form the plastic ink pens and ballpoints. Some plastics that are rigid and hard in shape are used to form plastic bottles.

Extruded Plastic Products

Extruded plastics have different usages for instance they are used to form different shapes of bottles, plastic crockery sets are formed, stationary products are formed, and other domestic and industrial equipments are prepared from these plastics.

Different plastic materials are used in daily life. The pure plastic is very flexible and soft. However, such plastic equipment melts when exposed to fire. Hard plastic hold different impurities and it brakes when exposed to pressure and temperature. Now with advancement in technology special plastic equipments are manufactured that can be exposed to temperature and example of such plastic equipments is plastic microwave crockery.
