Six Sigma

Overview Of Six Sigma

What is six sigma? M. Harry and R. Schroeder first introduced six sigma in 1999. Six sigma is the part of total quality management process. Six sigma methodology uses process capability analysis. Sigma is the Greek word and stands for standard deviation. The smaller the value of six-sigma lesser will be the process variability. Sigma six means the value of sigma is counted from -6 to +6. Six-sigma process rarely stands in the centered where it is scattered within its limit. Lean six sigma is difficult to obtain as most of time the graph is scattered with irregular pattern. Six sigma training is held at many organizations. Six sigma training certification is given to different employees according to their training they get. Different training is given to these employees. Karate designation is given to these employees according to the time pass in getting training. Therefore, we divide these designations into three categories

1. Six Sigma Green Belt Training: project leaders are given 5 days classroom training in order to achieve least variability in the projects they are holding. These project leaders are then six sigma green belt certification. This helps them all the way in their profession. When they are gone to next project in any organization, this certification not even image better but also help in the leader promotion.

2. Six Sigma Black Belt Training: black belt training last for 160 hours. This training is given to the projects member who then helps these green belts in the project. They define their projects and get training with green belts during the project process. They assist them in the project after the training is completed. Six sigma black belt certification is given when their 160 hours of training is completed.

3. Six Sigma Master Black Belt Training: this training provide technical leadership quality in the members and thus help in almost each program in the organization.

Six Sigma Problems:

Six sigma is typical a statistical method and is difficult as other members of organization who do not have any knowledge about stats, they could not use this process. On the other hand, six-sigma is not cost effective for the organization. It does not help in reducing cost of organization. Six sigma training is very costly and therefore requires a high level of investment. The small or medium size organizations could not pay for such trainings. General electrics pay 2 billion dollars in order to develop the infrastructure for the six sigma training. With the six sigma infrastructure it is possibility that bureaucracy will start in the organization and thus lead to poor conditions. Six sigma only provides the information of variability in the process. No information about the defect prevention is given by the six sigma. It is seen that the famous companies who get trained in six sigma start loosing their market share after few months and start loosing profit. Examples includes as Iomega, maker of zip drivers, General electric, and Motorola.

Six Sigma Online Training:

Six sigma training is very expensive and thus requires a lot on money to invest in the infrastructure. Therefore, many six sigma trainers start training the members of different organization through internet. This training not contains lots of information as required during practical tanning.

Secondly, this training only informs that what is six sigma, how to use it, and how it helps in our projects. Six sigma certification matters more when taken through practical training. Six sigma certification online do hold importance but not as much as it provides during practical demonstration. The only thing is that this online training is not very expensive. You can easily get information about six-sigma experiences of different organizations and its usage through internet. Different article readings and information can give a complete idea about six sigma.
